Step 2. Top Price Comparison Sites

Include Auctions when comparing prices.  But always know what the item is costing retail before you place a bid.  Auctions are great, but you still have to be careful.  You don't want to pay too much.

Costco.com
Costco requires an annual Gold Star membership fee of $50.00 to join. The prices seem to be regulated by area. The Return Policy is one the best. The Executive Membership is $100.00 a year.  With this you receive a 2% Rebate on all purchases (not gas), and special savings opportunities.  If you shop regularly you should not have a problem getting back the cost of the membership. We live close enough to do our weekly shopping and gas purchases there. I have noticed, lately, that the price for gas is higher than our local Safeway. If they go to much higher, it won't be worth the cost of membership. Also, I have noticed their prices for electronics have been a little high. We have decided to drop our membership down to the Gold Star this coming year. Their prices for food still seem to be good.

Shopping By Request
Submit the item you are looking for and Seller's respond by emailing you a quote.
I have not used their services so I am not able to tell you how comparable their pricing is.

ComputerGate.com
I have had a couple of small problems with ComputerGate.com. When I received my order, several items had been damaged during shipping.  So I asked for a RMA Number and to return the damaged items.
Several weeks went by and I contacted them about the Returned Order.  They replied they had never received it.  I had kept all my documents and when I shipped the partial order back to them I purchased Delivery Confirmation through the U.S. Postal Service, so I had the Date and Location of Delivery.
I emailed them the Delivery Confirmation number and other pertinent information, and explained that they had in fact received the order.
After giving them all the information - they found the received items.

On a different occasion I purchased Modem from them.  I received the Modem but it did not have any drivers or documentation.  I emailed them and requested drivers. It took them several days to email back with a location to where I could download drivers.

ComputerSurplusOutlet.com
I have not purchased from Computer Surplus Outlet yet. But I get their email newsletter.  They have some terrific deals! They also have items listed that are Free or come with Free shipping.  Try'em out and let me know what you think!

Update: I placed my order on 1/2/04. And they charged my credit card on 1/2/04. But I had to email them twice and telephone twice to receive my order. I finally received it on 1/28/04. In their defense, they were moving. Will I be ordering from them again? Nop.

Cyberguys.com
Cyberguys.com is another favorite place of mine.  Last time I ordered they sent me a Free gift!

SurplusComputers.com
I have not purchased from SurplusComputers.com. But their prices look good. Check'em out and let me know what you think.

There are tons of Coupon Sites online.  I have only included a few.  I find that going from site to site to find a specific coupon is too time consuming.  I have discovered, and you might also, that it is much quicker to use a search engine or a web search tool like Web Ferret.  Just type in an appropriate word (i.e. Amazon coupon or Barnes and Noble coupon) and within minutes you'll know if there is a coupon available for the store where your item is located.

I also subscribe to several Coupon Email Newsletters. I keep these is a special folder in Outlook Express.  Then when I need a coupon I just run a search on that folder.

These that I have included here seem to have all the bases covered.  Check these Web Sites first.  It might save you some time.

Search Tools

The two search tools I use are WebFerret Pro and  WS Websearch.

I set my options so that they use different web searches.  This way I am not doubling up and looking at the same sites twice.

I have upgraded to WebFerret Pro because I use it alot and find it an indispensible searching tool.

You can find WebFerret (Free) and WebFerret Pro for fee at:

Ferretsoft.com

And WS Websearch (Free) at:
